January 28, 2010 Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Transport Norman Baker MP will officially open the 2010 Business Travel & Meetings Show with a special opening address on Centre Stage at 9:45 on Tuesday 9 February. His presentation will outline the Liberal Democrat’s vision for transport, which comprises two main goals: to improve conditions for all passengers and to reduce carbon emissions from the sector. Mr Baker will discuss the Liberal Democrat’s concept of a ‘transport hierarchy’, which prioritises the greenest modes of transport. He will also explain the party’s specific policy goals, which include the introduction of high speed rail funded through a lorry road user charging scheme and the introduction of a road user pricing scheme, which will be revenue-neutral for the average motorist. An active campaigner for better and greener public transport, Mr Baker was promoted to his current role in December 2007 by new party leader, Nick Clegg, after serving in the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet since 2002. Mr Baker has also been MP for Lewes since 1997 and has established a reputation as one of the most dogged and persistent Parliamentary interrogators the modern House of Commons has known.
