GTMC Launch Online 'bite-sized' Training Units at BTS 2008

January 8 2008

AT BTS 2008 (stand 640) THE GUILD OF TRAVEL MANAGEMENT COMPANIES will be launching new online 'bite-sized' specialist training modules, designed for junior travel management consultants or for those wanting to obtain employment within the industry.

The Show will also serve to introduce newly elected GTMC Chairman Maurice Veronique and deputy Michael Hare. In addition, delegates attending the GTMC Training Masterclass will have the chance to win two Virgin Airlines tickets. The GTMC will also, of course, be showcasing the benefits of membership of the influential body that has a membership consisting of more than thirty of the UK's travel management companies.

The GTMC is a great training and end qualification advocate, for travel management consultants at all levels. The Guild, as it is known, has developed a Certificate in Business Travel, which is awarded in conjunction with City & Guilds and is the only nationally recognised industry-specific qualification in travel management. Currently on offer are four levels of business travel training to suit consultants at all stages of their careers. At the BTS the GTMC will be promoting the established full programme of qualifications and also launching the new online 'bite-sized', stand-alone training modules, which can be studied in any order. Seven modules will be launched and include subjects such as the basics of business travel (terminology), vehicle rental, hotels and accommodation and visa and passport requirements. Each module contains a short 'multi-choice' answer test and on successful completion application can be make to the GTMC for a Certificate of Achievement. The modules will be available from www.gtmc.org at a cost of £10 each with discounts available for multiple purchases.

John Williams, General Manager of the GTMC said: "The employment and promotion prospects of those going the extra mile to gain the GTMC qualifications are greatly enhanced by possessing this recognised proof of their competence in the business travel industry. We are introducing the bite-sized modules in response to demand from those who cannot initially commit the time to the standard training programme."

To further emphasise the importance of qualification and training John Williams will be conducting a GTMC Masterclass with City & Guilds Examiner Mabli Craddock, in room D3 at the BTS on Thursday 7 February between 14h00 and 16h00. The session will be particularly suitable for new travel consultants and may be helpful to others such as travel bookers, who are involved in making travel arrangements for a corporate account. The session will feature one of the new bite-sized training modules and will also include the following:

  • Introduction to GTMC qualifications
  • Introduction to syllabus content of GTMC/City & Guilds Consultant Level qualification
  • Introduction to other business travel related training programmes
  • Bite-size training on: Discounted Air Travel
  • Hotel and other accommodation
  • Vehicle Rental
  • The GTMC on-line training programme - demonstration and hands on experience.

Practical activities and Q&A opportunities will be included. Plus all attendees will be entered into a prize draw to win two Virgin Atlantic tickets! The Masterclass costs £35 and can be booked on the BTS website www.businesstravelshow.com

Finally, the BTS will serve to introduce new GTMC Chairman, Travel by Appointment's CEO Maurice Veronique, he will take over from Paul Allan in January 2008 for a two year tenure and his deputy will be Michael Hare of Fleet Street Travel.
